Stay In The Know:

The moment when you see other people performing and start to second guess yourself...

I was put in a group with Margaret and Lola while rehearsing our monologues and these are the things we said for Lola's performance:

  • She should imagine talking to someone.

  • She should slow her pace down at times

  • Lola should really understand her objective and play towards that objective in a realistic manner

  • She should understand her script and certain words like 'perambulating' in her monologue

  • Her voice needed to be like butter, really smooth and soothing

  • She needed to have costume and props that reflected her wealth

  • She needed to have a clear journey in the piece

  • She needed to determine how much space to use

  • She did have a good understanding of her given circumstances

And here is what we thought of Margaret's performance - She is doing a monologue from Suddenly Last Summer:

  • Margaret needed to work on her accent and accentuate her 'r' sounds

  • During her first line, when she says 'where was I?', we all agreed that she should not smile

  • Her use of space was good

  • She needed to change the tone of her voice sometimes because she was too emotional throughout the whole performance which makes the audience tune off

  • She needed to justify her movements around the stage
