Development and Progression of Ideas

Our Inspirations

Frantic Assembly had some amazing techniques and skills that we took on board. Firstly, their chair duet sequence was one of the main inspirations for our "chair scene".

Secondly, their workshops on the lifts were very helpful in assisting with out superwoman lift in the toy scene.

We were also inspired by a video we found on Facebook. This was the main inspiration for our train scene.

Staging Choices

We did not want to overcomplicate our performance by adding too many props and staging requirements, so we kept it simple. 6 chairs. One for each person for the chair duet and individual chairs are used throughout the performance in places like the train scene, the psychiatrist scene and the BOY! GIRL! scene.

Strengths Of our Performance

I thought that after we solidified our piece, we really started to assemble a concrete performance. These are a few of the strengths of our group:

  • We are all extremely in tune with each other on stage. We thought about what would happen if thinsg went wrong on stage and alternate ways to do scenes. E.g. our last scene, Ollie is being oushed down, however, Lola was no confident she could say the correct line and if that happened, Ollie suggested that Tash pushes her down instead.

  • Most of our movements on stage were prompted by other people which is why it was so important listen to what is going on, on stage, instead of wanting to do your bit and just delivering your lines. Every person in our group succeeded in that.

  • We incorporated a good balance of physical scenes and text-based scenes.

  • Our physical theatre component was strong because we learnt to trust the people in our group. I had the chance to fly in this performance and it was a very scary experience because at the end of the lift, I had to literally trust fall into Ollie and Freddie and over-time I got the hang of it and could do it without scrunching up y face by the end :p

Weaknesses of our Performance

  • The only feedback our teacher gave us was that we need to pay attention to the tiny details now. The positioning of chairs on stage. Are they in line with each other? Is the chair that is supposed to be int he middle actually in the middle? Are we maintaining character? What are we doing in our moments of stillness? Do we have any stray hair?
