Is the group keeping up with the deadline?!
UHHHHH.........
Time management
Time management in our group was a bit different to the other groups because we essentially had to start from the beginning all over again because of the change in our concept. However, our group worked so well together and each person individually complimented everyone on stage and in rehearsals and it was an honour to work with my group. We made it a point to meet up outside of school and use that time effectively to achieve our deadline.
Improvisation
My group is using improvisation very effectively. We are improvising some scenes and fleshing it out, keeping the strengths and eliminating the weaknesses. For the assembly line scene, we started to experiment ‘female poses’ and started doing cliché feminine poses and the boys started to make dominant male poses and then we decided that we wanted to exaggerate the movements of the girls and add a level of inauthenticity to the female characters whereas keep the male character charismatic and slightly brooding. So we took inspiration from pinup girls and the guys were moulded into postures like ‘the thinker’. In the chair duet, we decided on 3 pairs of characters and improvised our movements according to our characters, once we started getting good results we cemented those movements as a choreographed sequence.
Experimenting
We were constantly experimenting. There was never a time when anyone objected to trying out a new idea. Even on the last day we were changing minute details. The day of the first performance we changed our ending because when we did it, it sounded like a forceful lesson and we all said it in a matter of fact tone. Whereas we started experimenting and changed it to end how it started in a production line where we all said ‘Children should be taught what to think, what to think, what to think, what to think’ and then Ollie says “How to think” and gets pushed down by Tash who in my view was a metaphor for our society. Then we all look at what happened to him and amidst the fear of societal judgement, the rest of us say, “Not how to think”. It was very accidentally lucky that our group worked so well together and everyone was willing to put in equal amounts of effort to make our performance as polished as possible in the amount of time that we had.
Room for improvement and need for Priority
The main thing our group needs refinement on is the transitions. They just need polishing and refinement. The transition into the nightclub scene needs work because it’s not a clear transition and generally transitions into each scene need polishing and fine-tuning. However, at this stage our main priority was to solidify each scene perfectly and then work on transitions.
